FRIDAY POTPOURRI: BOOK BEGINNINGS & THE FRIDAY 56 — JAN. 6

Welcome to a potpourri of fun today as we share Book Beginnings, hosted by A Few More Pages; and as we showcase The Friday 56 with Freda’s Voice.

To join in, just grab a book and share the opening lines…along with any thoughts you wish to give us; then turn to page 56 and excerpt anything on the page.

Give us the book title and author, so when we’re tempted by your excerpts, we can read it too!

Today I’m sharing from an ARC from Amazon Vine:  a book from an author I’ve enjoyed.  Kate White’s So Pretty It Hurts promises to be suspenseful, captivating, and fun!

Blurb:  True-crime journalist and sassy amateur sleuth Bailey Weggins has scarcely begun her hard-earned weekend getaway when something comes up: a dead body, belonging to one of the world’s most glamorous supermodels. Now Bailey’s trapped at an upstate New York home amidst the glitterati—and any one of them could be a murderer. She’s determined to find out who’s responsible, but her investigation could provoke the killer into striking again… From Kate White, the New York Times bestselling author of Hush and the editor-in-chief of Cosmopolitan magazine, So Pretty It Hurts is an addictive addition to the Bailey Weggins mystery series, and the book that fans of If Looks Could Kill, Over Her Dead Body, and Lethally Blond have been waiting for.

Beginning:  An ex-boyfriend of mine once told me that I had a bad tendency to bite off my nose to spite my face.  A boss at a newspaper I worked for had said the same thing.  And you know what?  It’s true.

***

Okay…I like it.  She’s sharing something about herself that foretells some scrapes and adventures ahead.

***

P. 56:  “Well, everyone else had gone to bed, and we started making out on the couch.  There I was, expecting another night like the previous one.  And then—with my boob in his hand—he says…oh, shit, I can hardly say it.  He said, ‘Wouldn’t it be fun if Bailey joined us.'”

That excerpt made me laugh.  Imagine a situation like that….

So now I’m really looking forward to diving in to this one.  What did you feature today?  I hope you’ll stop by and share….

  1. I literally just put down Bond girl by Erin Duffy…

    1. I thought I was about caught up with Vines…and then I remembered this one and another by Sophie Kinsella. At least both will be fun. I just finished a review book that, while it was an exciting story, was not written in a style I enjoy. I plodded through, though.

Thanks for stopping by, Patty, and enjoy your next read!
