Today I’m participating in Sam’s WWW Wednesdays. Here’s how it works:
The Three Ws are:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next, and/or what are you eagerly awaiting?
***
Currently Reading: I’ve been reading this library book for two days already. For some reason, the pages are not flying by, but perhaps I am just easily distracted, since it is not a thriller. When Life Gives You Lululemons, by Lauren Weisberger, is all about life in suburban Greenwich, Connecticut, and the characters are super-annoying. I do like Emily, who was a favorite character in The Devil Wears Prada. But the book alternates between characters, and like I said: some of them are really unlikable. I’m more than half-finished, so I’ll keep plodding along.
BOOKS FINISHED SINCE LAST WEEK: (Click Titles/Covers for My Reviews)
Fear: Trump in the White House, by Bob Woodward
Woman Last Seen in Her Thirties, by Camille Pagan

EAGERLY ANTICIPATING:
I saw this book on a blog the other day, and had to pre-order it. I do love Therese Anne Fowler’s fictionalized tales of people in history, so I was immediately drawn to A Well-Behaved Woman: A Novel of the Vanderbilts, which paints a glittering world of enormous wealth contrasted against desperate poverty, of social ambition and social scorn, of friendship and betrayal, and an unforgettable story of a remarkable woman. Meet Alva Smith Vanderbilt Belmont, living proof that history is made by those who know the rules—and how to break them.
Synopsis: The riveting novel of iron-willed Alva Vanderbilt and her illustrious family as they rule Gilded-Age New York, from the New York Times bestselling author of Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald.
Alva Smith, her southern family destitute after the Civil War, married into one of America’s great Gilded Age dynasties: the newly wealthy but socially shunned Vanderbilts. Ignored by New York’s old-money circles and determined to win respect, she designed and built 9 mansions, hosted grand balls, and arranged for her daughter to marry a duke. But Alva also defied convention for women of her time, asserting power within her marriage and becoming a leader in the women’s suffrage movement.

What did your week look like? I’d love to check out the books you are reading.

You’ve read/are reading all sorts this week Laurel, liking the look of the book about the women who broke the rules – it’s set in the time period I most enjoy.

I love the sound of A Well Behaved Woman, at least the book title. I’m not so keen on the idea of well behaved women… I admire rule breakers as well and, like Cleo, the period it’s set in is enticing.

Thanks, Cathy, and I’m sure the “well-behaved” part is something to rebel against, and our character is trying to do that.
Enjoy your week and your reading.

So I should be getting my library hold of “Fear” soon. I almost walked out of the bookstore with it last week, but I just didn’t know if that was a book I would want to keep, because I have a feeling I will feel like you and be a bit terrified. I don’t know if I will want that reminder on my bookshelf. I enjoyed your review. Thanks for visiting my post!

Thanks for visiting, Sarah, and while I enjoyed reading the book (well, “enjoyed” is probably not the word, but stimulated and informed), I am glad my copy is an e-book. I wouldn’t want to have to see that cover with his face on my shelves! LOL
