Good morning, and welcome to Teaser Tuesdays, hosted by Should Be Reading.
In this meme, we share from our current reads, and then visit other blogs to see what everyone else is reading.
Here’s how it works:
- Grab your current read
- Open to a random page
- Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
- BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
- Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
Today I’d like to share from a book that’s been on my TBR piles for quite awhile, but I’m diving into it this week.
Garnethill, by Denise Mina, is a suspense thriller that will keep me turning those pages.
Here’s a snippet from Amazon: From its opening pages, this winner of the 1998 John Creasy Memorial Award for best first crime novel pulls readers inexorably into the tortured world of sexual abuse victims and their struggle to survive as whole people. Eight months after spending almost half a year in a Glasgow psychiatric hospital devoted to treating sex abuse victims, Maureen O’Donnell is desperately trying to hold together her shattered life. Bored with her job at a theater ticket office and depressed because her affair with one of the hospital’s doctors, Douglas Brady, is over, Maureen and a friend get drunk. The next morning Maureen finds Brady’s body in her living room, his throat cut. With bloody footprints matching Maureen’s slippers at the scene, Detective Chief Inspector Joe McEwan sets out to prove the woman’s guilt….
My Teaser: She had a sudden vision of him on the second night they had spent together. He had come over, ostensibly to apologize, but had stayed. p. 51
What exciting and/or tempting excerpts did you discover today? I hope you’ll stop by and share.

An English author that I knew nothing about, thanks for the recommend, I shall definitely put her books on my ‘wish list’, they sound great.
It was a little disturbing to read her bio and find that she was a geriatric and palliative care nurse, and also dealt with medicating deviant women, now she writes about blood, violence and murder!!!!

From the blurb, I recognized that familiar theme of sexual abuse…(I spent more than three decades as a social worker). Most people in my line of work avoid anything like this, but I’m drawn in. Thanks for stopping by, Yvonne.
