Greta Gale has played the part of the funny fat one her entire life, hiding her insecurities behind a big smile. But size doesn’t matter when you can laugh at yourself, right?
Until Greta realises she’s the only one not laughing. And deep down, she’s not sure if she’ll ever laugh again.
But Greta is about to discover that sometimes the best moments in life come when it’s all gone a bit pear-shaped…

I felt a connection with Greta from the first pages of My Pear-Shaped Lifeand kept rooting for her along the “yellow brick road” of her journey with Uncle Ray. Everyone should have at least one special family member who “gets her.”Sometimes living your best life doesn’t happen the way you had planned, and for Greta, who had always wanted to be an actor, there were many stumbles as she worked her way toward those goals. So…after she comes out of rehab, where she spent some time overcoming her addiction to sleeping tablets, Uncle Ray’s suggestion that they go on a road trip to Kansas—on their way to Las Vegas to meet the inspirational Dr. Greta Gale—that best life seems truly possible.
The characters and the situations they encountered were delightful and tugged at my heartstrings. I am a fan of the Wizard of Oz and the iconic moments made me smile. 4.5 stars.
I love the sound of this book and the Wizard of Oz references make it sound even better! I read a book by this author a while ago that was loosely based on It’s a Wonderful Life and really enjoyed that so I’ll definitely look out for this one.

Good to hear you enjoyed it. Most likely your appreciated the Wizard of Oz references better than me because I am only vaguely familiar with that story.

Thanks, Kathryn, I enjoyed my Wizard of Oz figurines that were part of my Disney collections. You can see photos of them here and there on my blogs when I am referencing journeys.
