Intro:  (Prologue)

They stopped once for the night, in Albuquerque.  The name of the city intrigued the girl, so she looked it up in the encyclopedia she carried with her.  It was her most prized possession.

Albuhkirkee…She silently repeated the word until it lost all meaning.  The girl caught herself drifting off into some paranoid daydream, not knowing what time it was or where they were going.  They had never driven this far for so long, never had to pump gas so many times.

Teaser:  After Quinn left the bank, she tucked the envelope under the seat of the Ford truck.  She felt giddy with excitement, her entire body seemed to hum, knowing she was going to see the old woman.  There was no turning back—not after church last Sunday. (p. 160).

Synopsis:  Dahlia Waller’s childhood memories consist of stuffy cars, seedy motels, and a rootless existence traveling the country with her eccentric mother. Now grown, she desperately wants to distance herself from that life. Yet one thing is stopping her from moving forward: she has questions.

In order to understand her past, Dahlia must go back. Back to her mother in the stifling town of Aurora, Texas. Back into the past of a woman on the brink of madness. But after she discovers three grave-like mounds on a neighboring farm, she’ll learn that in her mother’s world of secrets, not all questions are meant to be answered…

  1. Definitely intriguing! I love stories about family secrets. I like the opening you shared. Reminds me of when we stopped in Albuquerque on our road trip one year. We had to stop in at the emergency room while there, unfortunately, and so that is what I remember most about the city. Anyway, I hope the book is good! It sounds like something I would enjoy.

    1. Hmm, now I’m curious…I think I enjoyed Remember Mia, but I’ll have to check my reviews to see my thoughts. And I see that on Goodreads, I gave it four stars. I thought the psychiatric sections were tedious. Thanks for visiting, Emma.
