MONDAY POTPOURRI: MUSINGS — LONGEST BOOKS — JUNE 11

Welcome to Monday Potpourri.  Today’s event is Musing Mondays, hosted by Should Be Reading.

Prompt:

What is the longest book you have ever read? How long did it take you to read it?

Wow, that’s quite a question!  I know that I did read the whole Bible when I was a teenager, and can’t remember how long it took.

Another long one was Gone with the Wind, and again…I don’t know how long it took, since I read it in high school, sandwiched in between homework, school, etc.  But I do recall that I read it about three times!  On Amazon, it lists the number of pages as 960…I do recall the book I read had more than 1,000 pages.

I bought it a few months ago so that I could reread it.

I also read Forever Amber in high school; Amazon shows 976 pages.  Again…sandwiched in between other activities.  I can barely remember high school…lol; but I do remember reading those two books, along with many other favorites.

I almost forgot:  War and Peace, at 1296 pages and Atlas Shrugged, at 1200.

Nowadays, when I have a chunkster to read, I usually read it only occasionally, in between other books.

What about the rest of you?  What’s your largest chunkster?

    1. And after I wrote this, I remembered some others, which I’ve added: War and Peace and Atlas Shrugged.

I haven’t read Discovery of Witches. Heard a lot about it. Thanks for visiting, Patty.

  1. WOW you have a great memory! I do have your book, which I didn’t realize until after I downloaded it that it had 600 pages. However, as I stated in my answer, and I’m sure it will be the same as Web of Tyranny, if it is good and I get so engrossed, I forget about the page #. Thank you for stopping by. Have a great week.

    1. Yes, that happens to me, too; as for the number of pages in the books I mentioned, I had to look a few up on Amazon. It has been more than fifty years since I read some of them! lol

Thanks for stopping by, Cheryl, and I hope you do get engrossed in Web of Tyranny.

  2. Not sue I actually red GWtW..if I did, it was decades ago. And I don’t count the Bible, since I did not read it front to back but skipped around. So I will go with Lord of the Rings.
But I think I have lost all hope of putting up with huge books. Give me one great smaller one than one no so great hulking huge tone.

    1. I have less patience for the bigger books these days, but because I have a few chunksters on my stacks, I joined a challenge to help me get through them this year….

      Thanks for visiting, Caite.

I think my longest books were Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead, but that was a long time ago when I had more patience, even though they were quick reads (relatively speaking). Gone with the Wind is on my TBR but I keep putting it off!

    1. It’s hard to believe that most of my biggest books were read when I was younger and busy with school, social activities, etc. But then I wasn’t trying to finish the books within a time frame like I am now that I’m blogging.

Thanks for stopping by, ocd reader…
