MONDAY POTPOURRI — MUSINGS — DEC. 5

Good morning, and welcome to another edition of Monday Potpourri!  It’s been awhile since I’ve participated in Musing Mondays, hosted by Should Be Reading.

To join in, just grab the link, head on over, and respond to this prompt:

How many books do you read in a week? Month? Year?

Early in 2010, I started keeping track on my Curl up and Read blog.  I started that blog to track my journey through my TBR stacks, but it also serves as the venue for my reading challenges; books read; books purchased; review books, etc.  And I link to my reviews, so I can easily refresh my memory about the books.

In 2010, I read a total of 143 books in the year, which averaged about 2-3 books per week.

So far this year, I’ve read 160 books, and my average weekly reading is 3-4 books.  I can’t explain why the increase, except that I’m constantly finding books that I MUST read…on other blogs.

Too bad for my sleeping…and too bad about that budget, since I tend to buy a lot of these.  However, this past year has also shown an increase in the books I receive from authors, publishers, and Amazon Vine.

And I’ve whittled the TBR stacks down from 166 when I first started the blog to 50-something.  Yes, I should have read more from those stacks, but there is progress happening.

Here’s a snapshot of my current Old TBR stacks (yes, there are new stacks in my office!).

OLD TBRS -- PATIENTLY WAITING BOOKS

What about the rest of you?  Are you surprised by how much you read?  Do you track your books and reviews?  Come on by and share, please.

  1. I am very impressed with your accomplishments…
I am keeping track of books and reviews this year on That Goodreads challenge widget…

Sometimes I think that I read too much and I am missing out on other things.

    1. Thanks, Marisa…I do have a lot of fun with this blog. I have eleven blogs…mainly because I can’t get enough of the versions of fun available.

The kitty is Sasha, whose favorite place was on that sofa…and there’s still a dent. I had to adopt her out when I moved to a place that wouldn’t take pets.

She looks like she’s “musing” about life, don’t you think?

Wow! That’s a lot of books you read in a week! Do you read more than one at a time? If yes, how do you stay focused?! See, I can’t do that, I need to focus on one book at a time!

Thanks for visiting my blog! 🙂

    1. Thanks, Palm Trees…I don’t usually read more than one at a time, but occasionally, if I’m out and about, I’ll take my Kindle or one of the smaller books, and read something else at home.

And I would have a hard time staying focused on more than one unless they were very different from one another…like a mystery along with chick lit or romance.

      Glad you stopped by.

    1. When I was working at an outside job, it was harder to read very many…although I’ve always got a book in my bag, which comes in handy for those waiting rooms and lines at the DMV.

      Thanks for stopping by, Trish.

  3. Thanks for stopping by. I though I would do some writing when I retired but every time I start a book I want to read comes up I stop writing and start reading. I’m glad to see someone else retired blogging. I had just about decided I was the oldest book blogger around.

    1. Ha-ha, I’m pretty sure I’m the oldest crone in the blogosphere…lol

Thanks for stopping by and making me smile, Jo. I think the best part of retirement is being able to look at each day as one that’s full of great possibilities of our own choosing.

I do love reading, blogging, and writing, and everyday, it’s a toss-up as to which will take over the day.

    1. I didn’t expect to love blogging as much as I do. I initially had one “obligatory” blog for book marketing…but now that world has expanded so much, and so has my reading.

My writing has increased, too, as I’ve discovered writing challenges in the blog world. Thanks for stopping by, Danica.

  4. I didn’t start really keeping track of the books I’m reading until this year. I kept haphazard track of them in 2010.

Congrats on the 160 books you’ve read so far this year.

Hi! I wanted to thank you for dropping by my blog and leaving a comment for Musing Mondays! 🙂

160 books and counting is a really great accomplishment! I wish I could read that much in a year as well! 🙂
