Good morning, blogging community! It’s time for Friday Potpourri, and the celebration of Book Beginnings, hosted by A Few More Pages; and The Friday 56, led by Freda’s Voice.
Join in by sharing opening lines of a current (or next up) read, as well as your thoughts; then turn to page 56 and choose an excerpt from that page.
Today I’m celebrating a book by an author I first “met” through another great book of hers earlier this summer. Commencement, by J. Courtney Sullivan, is a “sparkling tale of friendship and a fascinating portrait of the first generation of women who have all the opportunities in the world, but no clear idea about what to choose.”
Beginning:
Celia woke with a gasp.
Her head was throbbing, her throat was dry, and it was already nine o’clock. She was late for Sally’s wedding or, at least, for the bus that would take her there.
***
Obviously a night on the town has left our character in this state. I guess I want to know more…LOL
***
56:
The latest scare had come just two days earlier, when April called from some army base in Illinois to say that a military guard had beaten the shit out of her when he caught her stealing classified files.
***
Now I’m eager to find out more about these characters. What have you decided to spotlight today? Please stop by and share!
Do you blame him for that? She was stealing classified files.
Sounds very intriguing!
Thanks for participating!

Poor Celia, she sounds as if she was in a bit of a state. And before a wedding, too. She should have stayed at home the night before…. Sounds like a good book.

It sounds like someone partied a little too hard the night before and is now paying the price. Classified files? He could have done worse!

Hi LaurelRain,
The opening lines of this book were great, as although I had a pretty good idea what was going on, there was a whole lot more to be found out in the next couple of pages. I needed to read on, especially as I have a hen party on the horizon in a couple of weeks tme and I haven’t been to one for years and years, so have no idea what to expect when we hit the streets of London!!!
By the time we get to page 56 I am a little confused, as I need to know how we even got to an army base, let alone what documents April steals and why! Now I really need to read the book, to fill in the missing 55 pages!!
I seem to have been reading a lot of contemporary fiction these days, as I have been getting more and more author/publishers reviews come my way. This one looks like a good candidate for my reading list, thanks for sharing.
