Today I’m excerpting from an Amazon Vine ARC,  Found, by Jennifer Lauck.

Expanding on her previous titles (Blackbird; Still Waters), in which she related the traumatizing experiences of being adopted twice before reaching her teen years, Lauck begins her story a decade later. After years of therapy, Buddhist practice, her brother’s suicide, two failed marriages and motherhood, she rejects her old vision of comparing the past to “radioactive waste” that must be buried. Despite early indifference to finding her birth mother, Lauck comes to see the woman as key to releasing deep pain, sadness, and rage….

In this teaser, Lauck is describing the circumstances surrounding her birth, and the fact of her mother Catherine’s plight as a pregnant teen in 1963.

 

Teaser:  Catherine’s world became an unfamiliar and unforgiving place.  She was humiliated by her family, isolated from friends, forbidden to see Bill again, and restricted to her bedroom for the duration of her pregnancy. p. 13

 

In this setting, we can begin to understand some of what Jennifer’s mother was experiencing and why she made the choices she did.
