TEASER TUESDAYS — HOW TO SAVE YOUR OWN LIFE — MARCH 22

Welcome to Teaser Tuesdays, hosted by Should Be Reading. This is our weekly bookish meme that offers the opportunity to excerpt from books we’re reading.

Here’s how it works:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers.

Today I’m sharing from a book by Erica Jong:   How to Save Your Own Life.

Blurb: Erica Jong–like Isadora Wing, her fictional doppelganger–was rich and famous, brainy and beautiful, and soaring high with erotica and marijuana in 1977, the year this book was first published. Erica/Isadora are the perfect literary and libidinous guides for those readers who want to learn about-or just be reminded of-the sheer hedonistic innocence of the time. How to Save Your Own Life was praised by People for being “shameless, sex-saturated and a joy,” and hailed by Anthony Burgess as one of the ninety-nine best novels published in English since 1939.

Teaser:  There is a rhythm to the ending of a marriage just like the rhythm of a courtship—only backward.  You try to start again but get into blaming over and over.  Finally you are both worn out, exhausted, hopeless. p. 99

So…what do you want to tempt us with today?  I hope you’ll stop by and share some tidbits….

  1. Very interesting teaser!

Thanks for stopping by Starting the Next Chapter today. I hope you have fun reading Sense and Sensibility when you get the chance to read it. 🙂

  2. Honey

I sure hope I don’t have to pick up this book for a LONG time! 16 is definitely too early to be thinking about marriage, much less divorce! But I have to admit, the teaser was pretty insightful.
