TEASER TUESDAYS — JAN. 18

TEASIN' MICKEY

Good morning!  Welcome to Teaser Tuesdays, hosted by Miz B, at Should Be Reading. This event offers us the opportunity to share excerpts of our current reads, and tempt you to read them, too.

Here’s how it works:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Today I’d like to spotlight a great new book on my stacks. My Formerly Hot Life: Dispatches from Just the Other Side of Young, by Stephanie Dolgoff, is a hilarious look at life on the other side of a certain age.

From Amazon:My Formerly Hot Life belongs right next to Elizabeth Gilbert’s Eat, Pray, Love for the woman trying to understand and embrace her complicated contemporary life. At the same time as it is laugh-out-loud funny, it will help you discard the old notions and expectations of yourself that no longer fit. Reading it will help you access the hotness you thought was diminishing…but that might just be heating up.”

This teaser comes after a section in this book (which is an ARC, by the way) in which the author talks about issues with her computer, and how her solution is to smack the side of the monitor and then take a nap, hoping it will fix itself  while she’s sleeping.

Here’s my Teaser: I’ve gotten more adept through sheer exposure, but even now, decades after MS-DOS, when something goes wrong in a big way, and I’m told that there is a new driver (I have no idea what that is) I can download to prevent the problem from occurring in the future, I feel like smacking the monitor again, because I know I will need help even with that.  I hate feeling like I’m not adept at what has become as integral a part of daily life as putting a key into a lock and turning it. p. 68

I can totally relate to this one!  I always cross my fingers before turning on my computer, praying that everything will work!

What did you find today?  I hope you’ll stop by and share your tidbits.
