TEASER TUESDAYS — JAN. 4

TEASIN' MICKEY

Good morning, and welcome to the first Teaser Tuesday of 2011, hosted, as always, by Should Be Reading.

Here’s how it works:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Today I’d like to feature an e-book I’m reading:  Safe Haven, by Nicholas Sparks.

Here’s a tidbit:

When a mysterious young woman named Katie appears in the small North Carolina town of Southport, her sudden arrival raises questions about her past. Beautiful yet self-effacing, Katie seems determined to avoid forming personal ties until a series of events draws her into two reluctant relationships: one with Alex, a widowed store owner with a kind heart and two young children; and another with her plainspoken single neighbor, Jo. Despite her reservations, Katie slowly begins to let down her guard, putting down roots in the close-knit community and becoming increasingly attached to Alex and his family….

Teaser:  A flock of starlings broke from the trees, moving in an almost musical rhythm.  The motion of the rockers was making the porch creak slightly. (Marked at 11%).

So far, I’m really enjoying guessing the backstory for this mysterious young woman.

What have you found today?  I hope you’ll stop by and tempt me!

    1. Oh, I’m really liking it so far. I can’t say that I’ve ever read his books before The Wedding, which I read last week; I’ve seen several of the movies, though. Thanks for stopping by, Lisa.

  1. I have only read one or two Nicholas Sparks books, but did enjoy them.

This one sounds well worth a read, thanks for the recommendation, I will keep a look out for a copy on my travels.

  2. I have a love/hate relationship with Nicholas Sparks books. I either love them or hate them, sorry to say I hated this one, I found it OK until the last chapter, that spoiled it for me. That’s all I will say, because that was just my viewpoint. However, I’m sure you will probably like it. Now, doesn’t that make you want to read it that much more faster, to see what his twist was in the last chapter that turned me off to the whole storyline. hee, hee.

  3. You know, I have all of Sparks’ first few novels. In fact, he signed them for me several years back. And then I got out of the habit of reading his new ones as they came out. Thanks for reminding me of his work! Great teaser! Mine comes from a new Swedish crime novel that is being released in the US today: Three Seconds by Roslund and Hellstrom. Here’s the link.

  4. Good teaser! I’ve only read one book by Nicholas Sparks – Message in a Bottle – and I wasn’t really knocked out by it. But I think that was one of his early works, so maybe I should give one of the more recent books a try. This one does sound intriguing.

    1. Thanks, Julie…until last week (when I read The Wedding), that was my experience, too. Movies only. I’m really enjoying Safe Haven, even more than The Wedding. Glad you could stop by, and I’m glad you like the blog look. I change it a lot!

    1. Yes, great reading! Plunged into the settings…So far, the two I’ve read were set in North Carolina.

Lately, I seem to have read lots of books set in the South. I’m feeling like I’ve been there! Glad you could stop by, Laura.
